Documents Required for GST Registration in India (2026 Checklist)
GST registration is mandatory for businesses crossing the prescribed turnover threshold, and optional (but often advisable) for many smaller businesses that want to claim input tax credit or sell on e-commerce platforms. Here is what you’ll typically need.
For a Proprietorship
PAN card and Aadhaar card of the proprietor, a passport-size photograph, proof of business address, and bank account details.
For a Partnership Firm or LLP
PAN card of the firm/LLP, the partnership deed or LLP agreement, PAN and Aadhaar of all partners, proof of registered office address, and bank account details.
For a Private Limited Company
Certificate of Incorporation, PAN of the company, MOA/AOA, PAN and Aadhaar of all directors, board resolution authorising GST registration, proof of registered office address, and bank account details.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Mismatched address proof, an expired rent agreement, and missing digital signatures for company applicants are the most frequent causes of delay or rejection.
Note to firm: Verify current turnover thresholds and any portal changes before publishing — GST rules are updated periodically.
